Eleven civil society organizations are planning to implement ideas for improving the quality of the environment in Belarus. The environmental initiatives competition was held in Belarus from August 1, 2018 to October 31, 2018 within the framework of the “EcoMonitoring” project , which is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources. The purpose of the Contest is to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to fully participate in the decision-making process on environmental issues and to support specific measures for environmental protection and sustainable development.
According to the Regulation on the Contest, organizations have tried their hand in such areas as waste management, rational use of natural resources, ecotourism, biodiversity conservation, improving air quality, using renewable energy sources, developing environmental education.
During the Contest, the project staff conducted 36 individual consultations, more than 100 telephone consultations, and 6 training seminars in all regional cities of Belarus on the preparation of applications for participation in the Contest. As a result, 136 applications were received from 93 regions of the country. Applications were evaluated by a specially created commission.
