On July 30, 2019, an introductory seminar of the Ecological Initiative “Protected Areas as a Resource of Environmental Education” took place in Slavgorod, in which the «Slavgorod Blue Spring» Nature Reserve will become an ecotourism destination with a focus on students’ environmental education.

The purpose of this initiative is to increase the potential of the Slavgorod Blue Krinitsa State Environmental Agency and the local community in the field of ecology and to develop tourism for sustainable economic development.

The implementation of the initiative on the territory of the Slavgorod region will allow to solve the following tasks:

To increase the potential of the GPU and the local community in the field of ecology and environmental protection.
Create tourism infrastructure and develop tourism services.
To develop environmental and educational activities in educational institutions of the Slavgorod district.

Vitaliy Varabey, director of the Vozrozhdenie-Agro local fund, noted the experience in implementing environmental projects in the Slavgorod region. The implemented initiative will allow us to combine two important topics — ecology and school education, and create a comprehensive program of practice-oriented classes for schoolchildren using the infrastructure of the Slavgorod Blue Krinitsa nature reserve. The importance of an integrated approach to the study of ecology was also emphasized by representatives of educational institutions of the region, who will take part in the implementation of a local initiative — school ag. Lopatichi and ag. Popovka, Secondary School No. 2 of Slavgorod.

In the environmental initiative, stands of ecological education will be developed, a walking and cycling routes will be equipped, a tower for bird watching will be installed. It is planned that the training component of the initiative will primarily affect teachers and employees of the reserve, which, in turn, will then be able to transfer knowledge about the reserve’s biodiversity to schoolchildren.
